For the organization in the remake, see ZPCI (Sonny 2017).

ZPCI (Zombie Pest Control Incorporated) is a private military corporation in Sonny and Sonny 2. Its members are dedicated to protecting the general public from Zombies by keeping hunting down and killing as many as possible. They are the main antagonistic faction of the game.

Summary[]

The ZPCI are dedicated to keeping the Zombie population under control and have an overall positive image in the eyes of the public.

At the same time, however, the ZPCI will resort to extreme measures to keep in business, including murdering and/or kidnapping anyone involved in research of a cure for Zombification. An example of this is the destruction of the White November research ship at the beginning of Sonny. It is also shown that they experimented on inmates in New Alcatraz in order to create stronger Zombies.

They rule with an iron fist and make people pay unnecessary high fees for their protection as well as setting up puppet government to do their dirty work, for example in Hew. They are also extremely ruthless in crushing rebellion from the citizens, case in point when one of their high-ranking officials nonchalantly suggests initiating a nuclear strike against the rebels to set the example for anyone daring to oppose them. The presumed leader of the ZPCI tells them not to nuke, instead deciding to use The SEED.

In the first game, Sonny comes into contact with the ZPCI onboard the White November, Louis mistaking them for a rescue team. A quick battle that results in the death of Louis and the defeat of the Black Ops team. Sonny encounters them again in Ishiguro's Rest as a group of Hunters and GSG9 Assault hunt Veradux down, who has stolen a set of combat medic armor. In Gadi'Kala, Sonny and Veradux kill and pose as ZPCI reinforcements and trick Paladin Galiant to defeat the Baron. After beating the Baron, the two kill the Paladin.

In the second game, Sonny and Veradux collide with a ZPCI Elite, who boasts about the reward he'll get for their head, as they fight through New Alcatraz chasing down Felicity. In Oberursel, Sonny and his party meet Captain Hunt and his entourage sent to wipe the Insurgents out and possibly the Baron's Cult. They are chased by two Elites in the Ivory Line, ordered by the Captain, and finally meet an Ambassador in Hew.

Public Perception[]

They seem to be generally appreciated for their actions against the Zombie threat, except by those residing in Hew. The exorbitant rates, kidnappings and the thought that they no longer need their protection, plus a dead body to stir drama, leads to the workers rising up and rebelling against the city.

Organization[]

ZPCI Leader

The presumed leader of the ZPCI, as seen in the endgame cutscene of Sonny 2.

The presence of rank, squads, roles, and even titles, establishes that the ZPCI use something akin to a military structure. Hunters and GSG9 work in sets of threes, with the former leading the latter. Elites work in pairs or by themselves, the two exceptions being when they're called to reinforce Paladin Galiant, arriving with a Sniper and an Elite Medic and when one fights Sonny in the Ivory Line with two Armored Hounds. Finally, the two times we see Captains deploy, they do so with 2 more units. First with an Assault soldier and a Medic and the second time with a Medic and Sniper.

They control the city of Hew, it being a large part of their economy, under a puppet government lead by Mayor Boris Livingstone. It is said that they frequently kidnap citizens, most likely to experiment on them.

Equipment[]

ZPCI Arctic set

The X5C8 Artic model set, which is not seen on any units.

The ZPCI has access to a vast range of weapons and suits of armor. Almost all ZPCI soldiers use rifles of one kind or another. The two exceptions to this are the ZPCI Captain, whom Sonny encounters while attempting to escape from the White November research ship, and Galiant the Paladin, both of whom used two-handed swords, but can somehow both fire ranged attacks, possibly using lasers.

They also manage to switch all of their units to a new line of armor in about a month, demonstrating at the very least good logistics and possibly high levels of manufacturing industry, though this might be because either the ZPCI is a small organization or because we only encounter units with the new equipment.
